OK, a rather unimportant issue here, but I wanted to share.

I truly believe EA Sports has the absolute best track record in terms of game soundtracks. Seriously. The music in Madden 2006, the songs which were featured even as early as Triple Play 2002, the unique and enjoyable band-played rendition of several popular songs in NCAA March Madness 2005. It's all wonderful stuff and I find I have downloaded about seven or eight songs featured in various games, like Business, by Treble Charger; The Middle, by Jimmy Eat World; Dance Dance, by Falloutboy; Hanging By a Moment, by Lifehouse. There's just some fabulous songs in the different games. Even the hip-hop versions of Rocky songs in Fight Night are pretty awesome.

Is there another game series out there with a better soundtrack?

In terms of indie/foreign stuff, the Silent Hill series.

GTA: Vice City. It's what would happen if the president of Ronko Records snorted coke, killed prostitutes and stole cars.

Wait, that's not fair. "If" my ass.

    Seconded.

MLB 2K6 earns an honorable mention for managing to include Belle and Sebastian, Pavement, and Guided By Voices.

Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh ... Madden! Madden!

I don't know what year or even what console that was on, but it's permanently stuck in my brain.

Nobuo Uematsu is almost always good for an outstanding soundtrack, but, for me, Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the States) is the pick of the bunch.

Wonderful, moving stuff, even if it was limited by the SNES's capabilities. Fortunately, someone eventually had the bright idea to put an orchestra behind it.

Without question it's the Grand Theft Auto Series. As a matter of fact, I'm going to break out San Andreas tonight just to listen to the hip hop channel.

Seconded ... the FF series has some moving stuff in general, but Uematsu is the king. I particularly remember from the FF series stuff I loved were the Choco theme from V and Yuna's theme from X. [/nerd]

As an aside, the ad at the top of this page says Wanted: Skilled Americans....Recovery of lost Australian thongs.

    Thongs? WTF?
