I'll second "Love in Vain" by the Stones.

Also, "Because the Night" by Patti Smith.

A big-time fav: "Sway" by Alejandro Escovedo.

Almost forgot -- any cover done by the Dirtbombs is incredible. Band is a guitar player/singer, two bass players and two drummers. From Detroit. Their album "Ultraglide in Black" is all soul covers, and great ones. Their cover of the Rolling Stones' "No Expectations" is a mashup of that song, "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Hey Jude." Absolutely ass-kickin'.

Indigo Girls did a great cover of the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band" for the "Deadicated" CD. It was a disc of 16 Dead songs covered by 16 different artists. A very worthy disc for any collection.

Warren Zevon did a very good cover of "Casey Jones" on that disc, too.
