The question seems oddly phrased. That's like asking "What's the best car for transportation" or "What's the best food for eating?." What else would you be using a computer for?

 

CB - Bought a Dell for my oldest seven years ago. It lasted six. I was shocked. It held up well and had almost zero issues. About a year ago I picked her up one like ijag is referring to. Core i5, 17.3 ... some new generation bullshit, with the speed and sound upgrade, internet protection, and three-year insurance (covers anything) warranty.

It works like a champ. The keyboard is offset a bit because of the size of the screen, which she says takes a little getting used to ... but she has it down now. And the sound could be just a little bit better, but with ear buds nobody can tell a difference.

The key to getting this for under a grand is to tell them you are buying it for a student. They do not as for proof and there is no pop quiz. You just are buying it for a student, period.
