Jungleland because it finishes the story that Bruce was telling the entire album.

Plus, it might be the best Rock song ever written when you consider the lyrics, craftmanship and how it comes across live.

I almost wish this thread were simply about songs that seemingly didn't fit in with the rest of the album, at least musically.

The song that comes to my mind immediately is actually the penultimate song on the record. The rest of the record meanders between slow ballads and mid-tempo rock. However, the song "Fall From Grace" off Stevie Nicks's Trouble in Shangri-la is like a double espresso shot of caffeine that jolts a listener awake with blistering guitars, searing vocals and crashing percussion.

I wish that song were the closing number on that CD. It would likely have left a memory on a lot of listeners.

As mad as I have ever been at a raqdio station was the time WSM-FM in Nashville played the entire Abbey Road album and didn't play "Her Majesty."

Funny you brought that up, F-T, I was thinking the same thing.

Except the song that stands out to me is "Whatsername" by Green Day. Great tune, and totally different from most of the other "American Idiot" songs.

Another recent one that comes to mind: "On and On and On" by Wilco.

I was going to post that. Morrison at his free-association best.

    Others:

"Release" - Pearl Jam -- Ten
"Salt of the Earth" -- Rolling Stones -- Beggar's Banquet
"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" -- Iron Maiden -- Powerslave
"Street Spirit" -- Radiohead -- The Bends
