Best character baseball player?

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Jul 28, 2008.

  1. Alright,
I'm borrowing a page from the Best Character Actor thread on Anything Goes thread.

Whose the best character baseball player; a guy who showed up and played everyday with little or no recognition - few all-star appearances, no World Series heroics, but a long (at least eight years?) career - during which they were minor - albeit important - to the teams on which they played? You know what I mean guys who not only had no shot at being in the Hall of Fame, muchless the Hall of Pretty Good.

Maybe a guy like Javy Lopez, Spank Lavaliere, Bert Campaneris, Andy Van Slyke or my all-time favorite second baseman Bobby Grich.

I feel like just about every player on the 1980s Royals other than George Brett would qualify.

    Frank White
    Willie Wilson
    Darrell Porter
    Steve Busby
    Dennis Leonard
    Charlie Leibrandt

Come on. You knew somebody had to answer Jeter, whether it was a serious answer or not.

    Brook Jacoby, goddammit.

.270 hitter, two-time All-Star, played every day regardless of where they wanted to move him, etc. He is the ULTIMATE answer to this.

And he was loved by all his teammates. Top it.

    That's Overrated with a capital "O."

Thanks in advance for not messing that up again.

I think... he was making the connection between the username and Captain Fantastic as the sole reason for it being humorous.
