    What's easy to set up and use, free (or close to it), and looks nice?

    Ahem. Back on the topic.

    My wife uses WordPress and, in fact, our newspaper website now uses a platform based on WordPress.
    Seems to work pretty well.

    Depends on what you're looking to do. If you're looking for a social place to share stories and excerpts of your work I recommend Tumblr. If you want to write, Medium is the best for thoughtful writing. If it's a general thing where you want tons of control and plug-ins and a bio and good SEO, I recommend Wordpress, but buy your url and avoid hosting if you're not looking to make any ad revenue.
