That does raise the question, who are among the top-notch hockey writers down there in the States?

Going back to Tipton and college basketball, I'd have to put Jerry at the top of my list.

    Conference-by-conference, I'd go:

    SEC: Tipton
Big 12: Jason King (KC Star)
Big East: Mike Waters (Syracuse Post-Standard)
Big 10: Jeff Shelman (Minn. Star-Trib)
    ACC: Eric Prisbell (Wash. Post)
    Pac-10: Honestly not sure

    National: Pete Thamel (NY Times)

I don't know about worst writer, but I'll throw in a vote for worst situation -- the guy who follows Tipton. I know he just covers one sport, but the sheer volume of copy that readers have come to expect is incredible. Even on a Sunday in September, Tipton has a full page of his basketball notes column.
Anyone know how tough it is to come up with a full page on hoops in September?

Let me second Mike Waters as the best in the Big East. Great guy, great writer.

How come Armando Salguero isn't in this list?

Oh, wait..............It's because he totally sucks.

I vote for Gosselin..........That guy is always Money.

I decided to take a look at the Journal Sentinel's Packers coverage from last Sunday. Great gamer from McGinn with some great detail on Ahman Green's touchdown. Awesome stuff.

Mike IS a great guy. Had a chance to speak with him for a bit in New York the other day.

Kim Baxter also does a nice job working alongside Mike.
