I recently sent my stuff to a managing editor who I thought was in charge of a job search. Turns out it is really the sports editor. The ME forwarded my stuff but told me to follow-up with a phone call to the SE. How would you handle that phone call (i.e. what are the best things to say to/ask the SE)? Thanks.

They told you to cold call the SE? Weird.

Job interviewing skills are the ones that I see most people lack. Just talk to the SE and not make a fool of yourself.

Can you set the bar a little lower, please?

So true. You are trying to get a job, right? Talk about the job and ask what is he looking for. The conversation should flow from there. Good luck.
