One winning season from 1995-2012. From 1990-2012, they finished within 9 games of first twice - 1994 and 2003.
That’s the period of despair I’m referring to.

I am a Broncos fan, not a Chiefs fan but I think the 1997 loss to the Broncos when the Chiefs were the number one seed would hurt more than the 1971 Christmas Day game. The Broncos, unlike the Dolphins, won the Super Bowl that year. And the Chiefs had a field goal waved off because of an illegal motion a call. I have still have absolutely no idea who moved after watching the replay several times.

A fan can take some consolation in the fact that the Chiefs-Dolphins game was so memorable as to provide some consolation.

I am there with you. Before that the Jays were becoming known as chokers.

    The move.
Art Modell is still vilified 24 years later.

CLEVELAND does have a particularly brutal history as a sports town.

Angel fans started the same feelings about two weeks before.

Man, that whole 1986 postseason was crazy. AL and NL

You'd think the Chiefs' SB win in 1970 would rank high in KC sports history, but it seems to be more like a brief blip.

Just as current success erases collective memory of failure (nobody in Boston recalls that the Pats were a laughingstock only 30 years ago), long stretches of failure erase memories of past triumphs. In your neck of the woods, I doubt there are many references to Bobby Layne.

It would be interesting to see what these would be 30 years from now when the mods are running SJ2000.com. Will there be more soccer memories? trump ball title games? People recalling the season where the AOC all-stars took the Socialism Cup?

The ALDS seemed highly unlikely when the Royals were way down — and late — to the A’s in the Wild Card game.
