    It's Berkeley. They would care.

Not if they were gay Marines.

So the thread started at 1 p.m. and by 3 p.m. we learn the city council has changed its stance? Boom, I'm impressed. You have some serious clout.

Actually, the City Council modified it's stance two weeks before Boom ever found the three-week-old story of them asking the Marine recruiters to leave.

But what I really, though, love is a government that says those Marines protect your freedom of speech but since you chose to exercise that freedom, we're going to punish you.
    Nice definition of freedom.

The Marines have as much of a right as anyone else to recruit employees in Berkeley. But the city council can set some ground rules. The bottom line is that the Marines don't deserve any special privileges. They should be afforded the same rights to recruit that a porn video company would receive. Equal rights is a bitch. Perhaps we should just have Boom lead the Marines into every city and declare martial law. Perhaps then he'd be happy.

Which is fine and makes perfect sense. However, the city has no business giving the demonstrators financial assistance it wouldn't give other groups, including the Marines.

Any proof they didn't give other groups the same assistance? I haven't ready any yet.

There is no proof they were providing financial assistance to the Marines.

I didn't read the story. So it's hard for me to characterize what fueled their initial decision. Certainly, their reconsideration seems warranted.

How can you render an opinion on a story that you did not read? Are you The Amazing Kreskin?

If the recruiters conducted their business out of an office in the trees around Memorial Stadium, they'd be welcomed with open arms.
