Bergen Record — New Jersey Devils beat writer

The Record/NorthJersey.com is searching for a professional sports writer to join our team and cover the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.


The selected applicant should be digital savvy with the ability to develop content that takes advantage of all delivery forms, including video, social media, mobile, desktop and print. He or she will work to break news, provide analysis and context, and deliver deep enterprise.


The applicant will be on site to cover home and away games, practices and media events as warranted, and will populate and oversee our branded “Fire & Ice” blog and digital app.


NHL experience is preferred, but an exemplary writer with major beat writing experience will be considered.




Additional Qualifications:


• Bachelor's in Communication, Journalism, or equivalent experience and education.


• Proven experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.


• Proven experience editing and shaping sports and digital journalism.


• Proven experience aggregating content and producing quick write-ups based on trending topics in sports. Presents a quick, conversational writing style that resonates with mobile and social audiences.


• Proficiency on social media platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.


• Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.


• Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.
