Just to clarify for those who thought IHA may have broken down if he had run: Dr. Larry Bramlage said on Friday that the tendon injury didn't compromise his ability to bear weight, so it's moot, from a catastrophic breakdown standpoint. He actually could have run in the race without any increased danger of that.

What it did compromise was his ability to run a mile and a half without getting more sore and uncomfortable, leading to a bowed tendon. If you're a runner, think about how much fun it is to go out there with Achilles tendinitis.

 

Thanks for posting this. It actually helps give more of an idea as to how serious the injury was. Still think they were smart for not running him, though.

 

Agreed. It was better for everybody, the horse (especially the horse), the betting public, etc. He could have raced next year, but they didn't want to lose a lucrative breeding season, especially considering the uncertainty that IHA would have been able to regain his 3YO form after months of recovery and rehab.
