    The AD and marketing guy from a college that Wally's paper covers decided that they wanted someone new to design one of their media guides. So they ask the beat writer who covers that sport to do it. Their argument, when the SID pointed out that that wasn't really kosher, was that Wally had OKed it.

    That says a lot about him right there.

    All of this duly -- and quite accurately -- noted, why in an era of cutting bone in newsrooms is this guy gainfully employed in this position?

    Christ privy, this was juvenile and barely readable. There has to be a better columnist busting his ass somewhere, anywhere -- even on that staff -- who could replace this hack.

    He's the SE.

    Edit: I thought he was. But on their site, he's listed as AME/Sports.

    Ah, thanks for that clarification that crystalizes to Ivory Soap purity one of the many problems this biz has -- too many people in positions of power are allergic to competence.
