City Supervisor Eric Mar said on Instagram: "Waiting for Miles the Batkid and wondering how many 1000s of SF kids living off SNAP/FoodStamps could have been fed from the $$."

    The supervisor is appropriately named.

Yup. And how many food stamps kids will a new basketball arena feed?

Is it wrong that I look at that Mercury-News front and can't stop myself thinking "there's no such thing as an at bat in cricket"?

This is exactly why the "mantra of the burden of immigrants" is such bs; immigrants know that they have no one out there to help them but themselves.

Caught "Batkid Begins" on a flight the other day. Great documentary about the snowball effect of a simple Make-a-Wish plan. Apparently, guy portraying the Penguin started the storm with a tweet.

Cool stuff I hadn't known -- I live across the globe, so I didn't know as much about it as most anyway. The day prior to the event, the little boy went to a gym to prepare and acrobats who trained there wore borrowed superhero costumes. And for the skeptics, the fact the $105k tab was picked up by a grant.

It didn't say how much the event brought in for SFO but did mention people flying in to take part.

Just a nice story in a world in dire need of nice stories.

Was, by far, the best thing showing on the plane.

Glad to hear, but when I saw the update, I was fearing the worst.

I was a small part of a Make-A-Wish thing today at my office that my boss earlier in the week said would be like the Batkid of our town. That was a colossal stretch, but it did involve the young kid as a superhero going to the local NFL complex, my office and other outposts around town to hunt a bad guy (who oddly looked like Dom DeLuise but I digress). There were police escorts and every local TV station in tow, but nothing remotely like the SFO Batkid. That was truly an amazing day.
