    Nice deal for TB...

Navarro's been moved around a bit of late, but is still just 22. Switch-hitting catcher with good on-base abilities; not a bad combo.

    How's he defensively?

Hendrickson is a chicken winged scrub.

casty, as you wish. I have no further comment.

Yeah ... exactly what would the Dodgers be getting out of this other than two mediocre players?

  4. Just keeping this in the back of your head type thing but Navarro was one of the players Paul DePodesta traded for. Maybe Ned Colletti is just putting "his guys" on the roster and getting rid of traces of DePodesta. JD Drew probably has too big a contract to move (although I bet the Braves would take him back at a discount and it should be remembered that his money is the money they saved by NOT re-signing Adrian Beltre). Brad Penny is too valuable a pitcher to move.

Who else is left from DePodesta? Derek Lowe (the rich man's Don Aase)? Navarro came over in the Shawn Green trade to Arizona.

DePodesta made the playoffs in his last year. Colletti needs to make the playoffs this year or next or the natives will get restless.

I wholeheartedly concur with Mr. Biscuits.

Question -- Has anyone heard further rumblings about the Marlins trading Dontrelle Willis?

DePodesta made the playoffs his first year, not his last.

If Drew and Atlanta are in love with each other, they can shack up next year. Drew has an "out" in his contract after this season.

Now the Dodgers have three catchers on the roster.

RE: Dodgers and Devils Rays trade.

Toby Hall was such a good-hitting catcher in the minors. I always wondered whether he just sucked, or it had something to do with getting bogged down in the suck surrounding him. Kind of hard to hit when you're worried about that shitty staff every inning for three years.

Heard Joe Girardi over the weekend in NY say Dontrelle is not going anywhere.

  9. It's official.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays traded pitcher Mark Hendrickson and catcher Toby Hall to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for pitcher Jae Seo, minor league catcher Dioner Navarro and a player to be named.

    A massive exhange of mediocrity.

But the dodger's mediocrity was making minimum. Why did the Dodgers take on $4 million worth of mediocrity?

  12. I think this is a good move by both teams. The Dodgers have a real shot at the playoffs but are real weak at catcher and the back of the starting rotation. Hall is an upgrade at catcher (40-yr old Sandy Alomar was the starter) and Hendrickson is a big upgrade over Seo.

The Devil Rays save about $2 million in 2006 salary - probably weren't going to be able to re-sign either Hall or Hendrickson and they get a young highly thought of catcher and a starter who was pretty good last year for the Mets. They save on salary this year and next. If Navarro turns out to be a stud or if Seo regains his 2005 form - its a bonus.

The Dodgers only take on about $2 million in 2006 salary
