I know. And he's a Cub, which basically ensures his arm falling off.

    But today, I am happy.

Everyone knows that Harden is injury prone, but any trade is a risk and this trade was a risk worth taking.

The Cubs didn't give up any of their top prospects, really. Murton's got potential, but he's blocked. Patterson's got potential, but, hell, what does he do for you that Pie doesn't or won't, eventually?

    Good move by the Cubs.

Potentially a great move by the Cubs... but a big risk as well.

  4. I think they meant Josh Donaldson and not John Donaldson FWIW

Didn't Donaldson play for the Pilots? He must be 70 by now? John Donaldson, I mean.

  6. Maye they got the John Donaldson who was captain of the U.S. Chess Olympic team six times? Lou can use him to help figure out double switches six moves ahead!

Wait a minute -- the A's do better trading Harden than the Indians do trading Sabathia??

If LaPorta doesn't hit 30 HRs a year, the Indians' trade reeks of failure. The Cubs gave up a pretty decent pitcher, a nice stick, and a prospect who could at least be a solid utilityman. I don't know Harden's contract status, but I sure know his injury history. Sabathia is one of the most durable and consistent pitchers in the league despite everyone's complain about his weight. Harden spends more time in the doctor's office than my grandmother.

Is that a tinge of bitterness I hear in your 'voice'?

Their rotation isn't really set 1-5 right now. Lou's moved guys around all season. They went Zambrano-Lilly-Marshall in St. Louis. Marshall definitely isn't the No. 3.

But yeah, I'd guess that after the break they'll go

    Zambrano
    Harden
    Dempster
    Lilly
    Marshall/Marquis

What's the deal on Gaudin? I don't know anything about him.

Any Bay Area SportsJournalists.commers out there?

We interrupt this cubsfanboilooser slurpfest for some real baseball:

Carlos Beltran 3-run homer off the great Tim Lincecum in the first inning.

We now return you to "When will Rich Harden go on the DL again," already in progress.
