If Rice wasn't despised by every writer who ever covered him he'd have gotten in years ago...

Dawson and Raines should get in... I think they're penalized for playing in Montreal...

Gossage should have been in years ago...

Have you and I ever drank together/smoked bowls and not known it?

Shit, I've been saying that for 20 years.

And has there ever been a more overrated pitcher than Frank Viola?

Goose doesn't get in next year, I'll be shocked.

    It's his time.

    It's time.

Given the live list, how can you prefer anyone above him, all things considered.

Not true. He's just not a Hall of Famer.

I laugh when I hear he led the league in assists. You know why? Because no one took him seriously. Manny Ramirez led the AL in assists recently too, I think.

A total one-dimensional player whose peak was not long enough and whose decline was preciptious. He didn't even reach 400 HRs or 2500 hits, which to me are BARE minimums for consideration for a guy who played as long as Rice. He had four 30-homer seasons. Yeah, he had at least 39 in each of those four seasons. He also had less than 30 homers 12 other times.

    He's never getting in.

That's why I think Rice will get in too. The list of new guys, for the most part, stinks.

Left fielders at Fenway always have an advantage for outfield assists. Pardon the pun, but it comes with the territory.

No disagreement here. Rice was the most feared hitter in the game for a short period of time, then he dropped off the face of the earth. He's not getting in.

Neither is Mattingly, for that matter.

BYH, you make a good point.

I have heard before that certain eras are being overlooked.

I quickly counted six HOFs off this MVP vote. That is enough, or at least it is enough to say that this period of time is not being ignored.

I have no idea what "tautology" means, but Broadway's argument feels like self-fulfilling prophecy or something. Writers don't vote for him for Cy Young, and then use that not vote as justification not to vote for him for the HOF. It's intellectually dishonest, and bs of the highest order. (is that what tautology means?)
