While I was writing the following response in the thread about the awful statements by that congresswoman, it got locked. Took me so long, I wasn't going to throw it away, so here it is. Please stay away from whatever you were doing to get the other thread locked & stick to this topic, so we don't get deleted.

All I wanna know is which three commandments I can ignore.

I thought there were 10 commandments and seven deadly sins.

Dammit, Inky. We had a chance to take advantage of a bureaucratic screwup and you go and blow it (which is a sin, by the way).

If we get rid of No. 1, then we'll get rid of the other nine, right?

Which 7 commandments are you talking about, Guy?

    1- Idolatry
    2- adultery/incest/homsexuality
    3- Murder
4- Setting up a court system
    5- Theft
    6- Cursing God
7- Eating a limb from a live animal (most interpret this as prohibiting cruelty to living beings)

They are broad categories, with some subcategories, and some conflict about what may or may not be contain within, but pretty much all (Jewish) authorities unsdersatnd that these are the 7. The Ten Commandements were given to the Jews, not the whole world - doesn't mean that many of them aren't a good idea, and of course there is overlap between the lists.

So it's a sin to set up a court system?

    That's a shalt, not a shalt not.
