barry to boycott hall?

No, it's defacing history. It's not like a pop stain or mud stain on the ball, which would come naturally.

The ball, with the asterisk, is part of history and should be allowed to be part of the museum if the museum wants it on display. For better or worse, it demonstrates pretty vividly the ambiguity the public faced about the integrity of the record and one of the ways the public (at least that part of the public that would participate in an unscientific poll posed by an attention-seeking grandstander) ultimately chose to deal with that ambiguity.

With that said, Barry has a right to boycott the museum on induction day and think twice about any donations he's made in the past. He's just putting the Hall on the spot to decide whether they'd rather have Barry at his induction or a defaced ball. It's up to the HOF.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one because I don't feel it's defacing anything. It's the owner's rightful property, since he paid for it. If he wants to piss on it and hand it over to the Hall, that's his right. The Hall, however, doesn't have to display it.

Not to mention, it is some wealthy asshole deciding that since he spent the cash for the ball, he gets to decide whether an asterisk is placed on Bonds' record or not.

Bonds has every right to tell the Hall of Fame to fuck off if they show the asterisk.

Not to pick a fight with you OOP, but am I missing something. The guy DID pay money for the ball. How can anyone tell him what he can and can't do to the ball?

He can do what he wants with it, but I don't care for some asshole paying for the right to determine what the Hall of Fame can display.

He didn't. The Hall can display it or choose not to. It's up to the Hall.

The guy who bought the ball has every right to do anything he wants with it, but the Hall of Fame doesn't have to display a ball whose appearance has been altered. That choice is up to them. Bonds is just telling them how he'll react if they display it. What's the problem?

Mr. Bonds should boycott. Personally, this whole thing is really dumb.

Regardless of how you feel about branding the ball, it's great to see Bonds get worked up about it. He went through the whole process of chasing the record not seeming to care about what anyone said. Now he's got his precious record, and somone finally got a rise out of him.

He's not determining what the Hall can display. He's simply offering it to them. Should they choose to display, how they do so will mean more than whether or not someone "defaced" the ball.
