Barnhart takes buyout

Know there's an AJC thread below, but Tony made it official today in an email blast to a bunch of folks. Last day at the paper is Sept. 28, although he'll do some blogging (BLOGS!) and "a few selected things" for them on a contract basis. Said he'll continue covering games, mostly for CBS.

Good luck to him. He's one of the good guys.

That was my reaction. He is his own brand name in the Southeast.

 

I guess nothing should be shocking anymore, but newspaper coverage of SEC football without Tony Barnhart is like Wimbledon on clay.

 

Sad, sad day indeed.

 

The AJC used to be the standard for college football reporting.

It took a colossal hit when Schlabach left. This is a huge hit as well. Barnhart is as well-connected as anyone in the SEC.

 

There will still be an AJC.

 

There are still VCRs.
