I wish rappers still danced. There would be so much more joy in the world.

In hindsight, the smooth calling was a bit greedy. Before the river, the guy with the 9s would have had to figure the other guy had at least 3 Qs or 3 Js. Might have pushed him out.

Still four 9s would be a surprise.

I won a SNG (OK, the only one I've ever won) over at FullTilt, playing heads-up: Other guy gets dealt a low pair, I get J-5 or something. The flop was J-J-J. I check-raised because I didn't want to give anything away; he went for a big bet with his full house (as Cosmo and others have alluded to) and I pulled him all-in.

Five digits worth of play money. Whoo-hoo!

Eastern Mennonite? That would be pretty rough.

Lost in all this was the fact that the guy with quad 9s was a big favorite in the flop. 80%, to be exact, with his bottom set vs. top two pair.

So Mr. QJ spiked one of his four outs on the turn. Seems like redemption to me.
And this is relatively standard. One-outers on the river are far from the worst thing that can happen to you in poker.

  9. I give it a 40.
    Can't dance to it.

The guy with QJ was behind before the flop.
He made two pair on the flop and was still behind, although it sounds like he didn't put the other guy on a set.
On the turn, the first guy hits his boat. That's the only time he's ahead, and then he loses to the one-outer on fifth street.
Incredibly unlucky and frustrating, but he was behind for 75 percent of the betting stages.

True. I read it wrong and thought he hit his boat on the flop. Not even close to the worst beat I've ever seen.

Probably the worst one I saw was quad jacks losing to quad queens. Dude flopped J-J-x. Opponent bet, and he raised. Opponent called, turned a Q for the full house and went all-in. Quad Jacks obviously called only to see the fourth queen fall on the river. Runner-runner quads is tough to swallow.

Damn casino didn't even have a bad beat jackpot. That would have been nice for everyone at the table.

Well here's one I've probably shared before:

    Holding Jacks- all in.

Guy calls - turns over A-4 off suit.

    Flop 2-5-2. I've got two pair and he's got a 3 to a straight.

Turn - 2. Full House for me and only three cards in the deck are saving his ass.

River - Ace giving him the better full house.

Matter of fact, I know I've shared this before, but it's relevant in this situation.
