Maybe he likes watching baseball. Of course if I did that my wife would kill me. We could spend that time at Williams-Sonoma. :)

tony likes to keep his "scorebook continuity" -- he's nuts, but damn good at his job

It used to be, but with a postseason that runs until November, GM meetings, winter meetings, free agency, etc., there isn't enough down time to get caught up.

If you're going to be a good journalist, you work 363 days a year. You can have Christmas and July 4, unless your team has a game that day.

I wonder if Dean Singleton takes off days and vacation?

My paper had a first-time beat writer take 130 games this year, plus spring training. The other 32 were divided up in a raffle-type sweepstakes before the season between the three previous beat writers. Each took three or four series.

If I ever get the MLB beat, I'd like to believe I wouldn't miss a game. Though I'm sure it's a lot easier said than done.

Then we could have two streaks to keep track of: Your celibacy streak and the games-on-your-beat streak.

Would be fun to guess which ended first :D

I'm sure it helps out with the rapport in the clubhouse, too.
