    This is a rather simplistic view of Guns 'N' Roses' followups to Appetite, and of November Rain.

    I'm not sure you actually have listened to the Use Your Illusion albums recently. Sure, they could have lost a few songs, but self-indulgence in rock is hardly unique to GNR. But to act like they were going "power ballad" is to display a lack of understanding of what the power-ballad era truly was about, and how much better Guns 'N' Roses was than the Wingers, Whitesnakes and Warrants of the world.

    Agreed, London Calling would easily be in my top five, even if it did come out late in 1979. Had never heard of DigitalDreamDoor, but any list that includes Ace Of Spades by Motorhead is fine by me!

    Funny how RS only had Appetite 27th considering the massive brown bunny they gave the Illusion albums - and Chinese Democracy - before their releases.

    GnR was a great band in their short window, but, man, looking at these lists of greatest albums of the 1980s, the 1970s and 1960s are shaking their heads.

    The grouping of Led Zep, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones still stand alone.

    And you have to place in the conversation for greatest album of the 1980s.

    Bad and Homecoming are on Fire, which are my two favorite U2 songs.

    The Illusion Albums could have been one incredible album or two really good ones...

    Was just going to say the same thing. Would have been a phenomenal single disc. As two, there was some pretty awful stuff that snuck in.

    A few other additions for any best of the 80s list for me:

    The Replacements, "Let It Be" and "Tim"
    REM, "Reckoning"
    The Call, "Reconciled"
    The English Beat, "Special Beat Service"
    Elvis Costello, "Imperial Bedroom" and "Get Happy!!"
    Midnight Oil, "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1"
    Split Enz - "Time and Tide"

    And yes, "Purple Rain" absolutely belongs in the discussion.

    "Bad" at Live Aid remains their finest moment in my opinion.

    And I will add The Pogues' If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Sound Affects by The Jam and The Blasters' debut.

    No doubt. But looking back, do you care for either of them? I don't think it has aged well.
