Attn SportsJournalists.com sports editors. Want an intern next summer? Want someone else to pay her salary? Apply for AWSM's Internship Opportunity Grant!

The Association for Women in Sports Media is proud to announce the second year for the AWSM Internship Opportunity Grant.

AWSM will pay for the salary of one female sports writing intern during the summer of 2010 at a selected newspaper, made possible by a contribution from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. In an era in which financial strains are forcing papers to reduce internships, AWSM believes that efforts to achieve greater gender diversity in sports media are more important than ever.

All U.S. daily newspapers are welcome to apply. Each interested organization must fill out a short questionnaire (see below) by Sept. 1, 2009. The applications will be reviewed by a panel of sports media professionals and judged on the basis of the quality of each paper's internship program and its commitment to increasing gender diversity in sports media. The selected organization will be notified by Oct. 15.

AWSM will reimburse the selected paper before the start of the internship for the full cost of the salary for the summer. The organization will be asked to provide documentation of its standard internship length and wage.

The intern will be placed at the selected paper through the AWSM Scholarship and Internship Program. Scholarship and Internship Program winners are picked in late fall/early winter.

Applications can be submitted in one of three ways:

E-mail (in body or as attachment): grant@awsmonline.org

    Fax: 717-703-3001

Mail (must by postmarked by Sept. 1):

Association for Women in Sports Media
    3899 N. Front St.
    Harrisburg, PA 17110
