Autograph after an interview?

Exactly. Think about the point of an autograph, isn't basically to show people that you met someone (unless your a collector, which is a whole other problem)? Well like you said, if you interviewed and wrote a story on this person, wouldn't that be all of the evidence you'd need so others would know you met the athlete? And you'd even have some anecdotes instead of "Hey look at this napkin."

Unless of course, you are "covering" the event for Pasadena.com

If you want autographs, go into a different profession.

It's that simple. If you are working as a journalist, consider yourself to have forfeited the right to ask for an autograph while on the job. Not a whole lot of grey in this issue.

Can a journalist get an autograph from a child molester?

A baseball writer once told me that each of the beat guys paid a clubhouse guy at the end of the year to get them a team autographed baseball (supposedly to "mark" their year covering the club).

As long as you didn't cover his trial.

Anybody ever ask for an autograph from another member of the media?

A couple of times I've had media friends write books about subjects I was interested in. I asked them to autograph the book.
