Frank McCourt, the Brooklyn-born, Irish-raised author of the bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes, is suffering from meningitis and reportedly has as little as a couple of weeks or less to live.

Diagnosed with melanoma earlier this year, McCourt has been admitted to a New York Hospital. Malachy McCourt, the writer's brother, told the Limerick Leader that doctors have informed the family that the prognosis is bleak.

"He's not too good at the moment," said Malachy McCourt, an actor, politician and author in his own right. "He was doing fine but he got meningitis two weeks ago and it turned the whole thing topsy-turvy."

Loved 'Angela's Ashes.' 'Tis' not as much, but it was still enjoyable.
    Didn't read the last one.

I read both Angela's Ashes and Teacher Man. McCourt is a gifted storyteller. We'd all be lucky to have his skills.

    Viral or bacterial?

(Hoping for a Holy Grail result here which would be totally positive...)

I enjoyed both books very much. McCourt is a huge talent.
