AUGUSTANA COLLEGE SPORTS INFORMATION INTERN

Augustana College is seeking applications for a Sports Information intern for the 2008-09 academic year (10-month contract).

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist in the Sports Information office with the publicity efforts for the College's 18 Division II sports. The intern will be responsible for the daily coverage of assigned sports, including the following duties: write press releases, game notes and game recaps; create game programs; design and write media guides (where applicable); record and maintain statistics; help update and maintain the athletic department's web site, prepare and oversee game-day media relations; plan and execute media relations for any tournament participation; travel with team to away events (as assigned); assist with other sport events and duties at the discretion of the sports information director.

Qualifications: Candidates for the internship must have a bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field. The candidate must have strong writing and communication skills and a solid understanding of sports and sports statistics. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Photo Shop, Quark, web-based software and Stat Crew software packages is preferred. The candidate must possess a positive attitude, be willing to work nights and weekends, be highly motivated and be able to manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion.

Athletic Information: Augustana College sponsors 18 athletic teams (9 for men and 9 for women) who in 2008-09 will begin competition in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and NCAA Division II.

Salary: $1,000 per month with no benefits.
