The Opelika-Auburn News, an award-winning daily newspaper in eastern Alabama, has an immediate opening for a reporter to cover Auburn University athletics.

The Opelika-Auburn News won a Triple Crown in 2015 from the Associated Press Sports Editors and was one of nine newspapers to win a Grand Slam in 2014. Also, both staff writers from the O-A News placed in the top 10 this past year in the APSE Beat Writing category for newspapers with a circulation of under 30,000. This is a great opportunity for someone trying to cut their teeth into covering a major college program.

    Here’s what you need:
    • Be self motivated, have good energy and a good work ethic. Also must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
    • 2-5 years of sports reporting experience; coverage of a college beat is preferred, but not required; four-year degree in journalism preferred.
    • 3-5 written clips; also include examples of multimedia/audio/video work.
    • Experienced in investigative reporting on a sports beat, strong profiles and alternative story forms.
    • Adept at growing audience through great content.
    • Smart with social media and multimedia.
    • Able to meet tight deadlines and travel when needed.
Drug and background screen required. EOE/M/F/D/V.
To apply, send resume, cover letter, along with the examples of work required above todsulonen@oanow.com.

Thank you to all who applied. I'm currently going through resumes now and am no longer accepting new ones. Thanks to all.
