    C'mon man.

If there was a Mount Rushmore of soccer, he'd be on it.

  4. Ah, soccer. That explains it.

Does McGwire count? Lives as a hermit in a gated community. Talks to no one who knew him more than four years ago except his family.

Jake Scott...while no public scandal..has completely removed himself from his legacy. Won't go to Super Bowls, talks to Dolphins, lives in Hawaii...

and from the wonderful world wrestling...Macho Man Randy Savage and Jake the Snake Roberts...or pretty much any former wrestler at this point.

And Daryle Lamonica.... at least last week

Christ, is that Vinnie Chase's Argentine brother?

He used to have the Gut of God.

Joe Louis: Hounded by the IRS for all his money, he worked as a Vegas casino greeter until he died. Max Schmeling helped him out financially.

Art Schliester: Ohio St. star turned 1st-round bust due to gambling problem. Spent time in jail.

From the wrestling world: The Dynamite Kid. One of the best pound-for-pound performers in the world, did a ton of steroids, and is now living in public housing in a wheelchair.

Superstar Billy Graham: From main eventing MSG to digging ditches within six months. He later nearly died several times from drug ODs and needed a liver transplant to live

  9. Professional wrestlers?

    Really?

Louis overshot the runway, and his hangers-on got most of it. Still, enjoyed powerful, broad national affection, despite his $$$ troubles.

Schliester remains the modern poster boy for those who have any doubts that they can successfully handle the ups and downs of the gambling life.
THIS could happen to YOU. . .

You are a piece of work. The guy had a stroke. He couldn't work in the only profession that he know. He's not highly educated and basically lost everything.
Those of us got to know J.R. found him to be a great person. He was funny and always gave interviews. Even in his current situation, if you talk to him, he will talk.
The guy didn't lose his luster.
You could say Dr. J and Jordan with their marital woes, Pete Rose, Mark McGwire, Diego Maradona etc. but I don't think J.R. belongs on that list.

To be fair, Macho had a scene in Spiderman, so he hasn't been removed completely from the limelight.
