Athletes who lose their luster after they retire

The Isaiah Thomas overdose threat got me thinking. It's amazing how many star athletes fall from grace once they stop playing.

Some cases are more serious (O.J. Simpson). Others are stunning because they break from their public persona (Kirby Puckett). And let's not forget the number of former baseball players who have fallen off the face of the Earth since the Steroids hearings and reports.

So, who are the athletes whose fall from grace stand out in your mind?

There are way too many of these tales, but one that stands out to me is Jeff Reardon, a guy who fell onto some really hard times with his son's death and was arrested for armed robbery.

Seems like he's back on his feet.

    Here's a couple:

    1. Pete Rose

    2. Donnie Moore — never got over the Henderson home run and attempted a murder-suicide with his wife (she survived)

    3. Nate Newton — or was he still active when he got caught with a truckload of pot?

Diego Maradona lost some luster and gained 6,000 pounds.

Can't believe no one's said it:

    Barry Bonds.

  12. I believe he lost it long, long ago.
