What age do you think a person should be held partially legally responsible for his or her actions, meaning to appear in court?

If they're old enough to have a cell phone, access the Internet or both.

I'm curious why you ask, and what the situation is?

Because there are lots of juvenile delinquents who are held accountable for their actions...

Trying to set some standard, across-the-board age like this is an utter waste of time.

This is just out of pure curiosity. Nothing involving me. I thought it may have led to some interesting discourse.

Think about when you were a kid; when did you actually have an understanding of what responsibility for your actions really meant in a world point of reference, not in the household point of reference (if you don't clean your room, no ice cream.) 12? Seriously? No, you're still a kid. It really should be something like 16, 17. Of course unless you're committing murder. Even then sentencing them to life in prison does no one any good.

If you kill someone, I don’t care what age you are.

Middle school, for sure. It's about then they need to start really understanding the consequences for what they do. Protect them because they're still kids, but when one of my 13 year old students is taking about how she can't wait for summer so she can just blaze all the time, she's responsible. Before middle school, depends.
