    Description:

    The Huntsville Item in Huntsville, Texas, is searching for a full-time assistant sports editor with strong writing, photography and page-design skills. Our talented editorial staff needs another enthusiastic self-starter who wants to tell interesting stories, take dynamic photographs and design pages that are alive with action. The Item is a 5,000-circulation daily paper with a two-person sports staff.
    The Item’s assistant sports editor covers Sam Houston State, an NCAA Division I university, in football and men’s basketball. In football, the Bearkats are one of three teams to have qualified for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs each of the last three seasons, including two appearances in the national championship game. Sam Houston’s men’s basketball team has played in the NCAA Tournament three times over the past 12 seasons. Additionally, there are three high schools in the coverage area. The assistant sports editor will cover everything from college football to high school tennis.
