The award-winning Sentinel of Carlisle, Pa., has an immediate opening for an assistant sports editor. Our readers expect top-notch coverage on everything from youth and high school sports to local auto racing and Penn State football – and they want it fast. We’re looking for someone who reports and writes from a reader’s perspective and understands how the Internet has changed reader expectations.

The successful candidate will be able to develop and produce story ideas for print and the Web, deliver quality work on deadline and work well independently. Applicants must have, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience and at least a year of managerial experience. The assistant sports editor also shares page design work with the staff, so familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop or equivalent software is necessary.

The Sentinel is an afternoon paper Monday-Friday and a morning paper Saturday and Sunday. We’re close enough to Baltimore, Philly and D.C. for day trips and down the road from Harrisburg, the state capital. New York City and Pittsburgh are just three hours away. The position offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, plus opportunities for advancement. We are part of Lee Enterprises, a premier publisher of local news, information and advertising in primarily midsize markets, with 52 daily newspapers and a joint interest in six others, rapidly growing online sites and more than 300 weekly newspapers and specialty publications in 23 states.

Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter and resume. To apply, go to www.cumberlink.com/workhere.

The Sentinel is a drug free employer. The Sentinel (www.cumberlink.com) and Lee Enterprises, Inc. (www.lee.net) are Equal Opportunity Employers.
