The Clinton (Iowa) Herald, a six-day-a-week newspaper, is seeking applications for an Assistant Sports Editor.

Clinton sits on the Mississippi River and features many outdoor activities. Subscriptions continue to circulate in Iowa and Illinois.

The Assistant Sports Editor is responsible for reporting and design/layout of the daily Sports section. The qualified candidate will be proficient in Quark and Photoshop. Coverage area includes high school and college sports, as well as a Class A Seattle Mariners minor-league baseball team, the Clinton LumberKings. Sharp writing, layout skills and AP style knowledge are a must, and multimedia experience is a plus.

The Clinton Herald publishes in the afternoon Monday through Friday and on Saturday morning.

Submit resume, cover letter and examples of your work to Associate Editor Scott Levine at the Clinton Herald, 221 Sixth Ave. South, Clinton, IA, 52732. Resumes can also be submitted to scottlevine@clintonherald.com.

This may sound snide and strange... but if the ASE does reporting and design/layout, what does the SE do?

It's a two-man staff so they split the load. No money, of course, but the main high school plays in one of the state's best conferences and there is Class A baseball. Maybe worth it for the recent graduate to get in and get out.
