One piece of good news: Many of the students who have written for my paper this semester will be buying me drinks tomorrow night at my favorite watering hole. They're doing it as a way of showing appreciation for the opportunities I've given them to write.

    It'll be fun.

Excellent. Good to see you're appreciated.

I still have a couple of e-mails from some of the students who thanked me before this went down.

That's probably what I'm going to remember the most fondly when I look back on the experience.

Wait — to make real money, don't do that and write a book about some character that did. John Grisham may come after you with a knife, but as he's proven you can bank enough to cover anything that comes up.

They are the most litigious people I've ever met.

There were a total of seven students at the table set up in the restaurant. I picked it because it's my favorite place to go hang out after work. There were plenty of drinks and lots of laughs, plus stories aplenty.

    It was great.

And ... today's my last day.

Got my final phone call from the publisher who told me that officially over the phone.

Oh well. Now it's on to the rest of my life.

    No surprise there.

I worked for a father/son publishing duo ... yeah, so the father was the "founder" and the son was the "editor/publisher." That was nothing more than avoiding the inheritance tax.

The editor/publisher's brother is an injury attorney. The office was in the building next door.
