The News Journal, the statewide daily in Delaware, has an immediate opening for an assistant sports editor. This person serves as the No. 2 in a department that covers myriad sports in our region – from the Phillies, Eagles, Ravens and 76ers, to two Division I universities and nearly 60 high schools. The ideal candidate must know sports inside and out, possess strong news judgment and copy editing skills and be able to skillfully meet the demands of print and digital, while being innovative on both fronts. We are among the strongest digital operations in all of Gannett and only getting better. Management experience is preferred because we’re looking for a person who can grow to become our next sports editor. Delaware is a great place to live, just 20 minutes from Philadelphia, 90 minutes from Baltimore and 2 hours from Washington, D.C. and New York City. Delaware beaches are among the best on the East Coast. Email resume and clips to Sports Editor Jason Levine at jlevine@delawareonline.com.

Hmmm. current sports editor wants to grow a replacement for himself. Sound strategy back in the day? Now ... dangerous?
