"We fixed it right away," said editor Heywood Jablowme.

Sounds like the perfect storm. Very few sets of eyes are looking at content these days before it goes into print or online even under the best of circumstances, and weekend staffing there undoubtedly is especially skimpy. Makes it much easier for the work of an idiot to slip through.

Did Asbury Park have a print newspaper on the day the story ran? Based on the accounts of what happened, it appears this didn't make any print edition, which would have preserved this abomination for posterity in at least a limited number of copies.

Of course, not even having ample sets of eyes is enough sometimes. My paper came dangerously close to letting "Shit, shit, shit" and "Big-ass headline goes here" placeholders into print 20 years ago, when staffing still was adequate. And I always go back to "More mush from the wimp" as a placeholder headline that wasn't changed on a Jimmy Carter story during his presidency in the late '70s (might have been the Boston Globe, but not sure).

Hmm ... Gannett Jersey. Probably still a hub, which means grossly overworked and understaffed.

All the more reason not to run a disgusting, misogynistic, profane cutline. While there was never room for this crap, there is less room for error than ever.

Someone(s) needs to grow up or go away.

I am looking at a Scrabble box from about 10 years ago, and their is a major typo on the cover text.

That surprised me more than some wayward cutline on a third-rate paper.

There's joke headlines we made and printed out for our amusement at the college paper that to this day none of us will talk about to anyone outside our college paper circle. It's like our very own We Know What We Did Last Summer (or in the Spring Semester).

Didn't even get into the story. Jaw hit the floor after reading the cutline.

The photographer should lose his job.
The depth of field on the pic is so short, we can't clearly see hot hot the nurse is.
