That's the difference between a major metro with pro teams, or USA Today, and a mid-size or smaller without pro teams.

I have no problem putting it on the section front. Just depends what else you have and what your philosophy is.

I've had all-preps fronts before just because that's what the boss wanted, even if I disagreed.

Tabloidically speaking, I don't think it bumped our state team wrestling championships off the opening pages. But I'm sure it got a good refer shot on the cover.

If you're at least a five-hour drive from the nearest MLB team, would your readers care?

There are probably some who care. In any city, there are some who don't give a hoot about preps and others who don't give a hoot about pros. I'm sure in some locales, the NASCAR race is big news. Personally, I couldn't give a shit about it, but to each his/her own.

Someone is having wrestling championships the first week in February? Wow!

We put it out front, below the fold stripped across the bottom.

We had a stand alone photo at the bottom of the front. Baseball is pretty low on the priority list here.

In my situation, yes. Our readers are either transplant fans from other communities or bandwagon fans, which makes any big Yankees news worth putting in the Sunday section.

We played the A-Rod story on the top of sports with a secondary photo.

State team championships. They get those finished before they even start the individual run next week. They can't overlap.

I wonder how many other states even have duals championships? I was hoping I'd have a reason to apply for credentials ... and then I remembered Ridgway is in our district. So much for that plan.

Back on topic, Bonnies - Explorers coverage dominated the local daily's front, but they did find room for A-Fraud on the bottom (with a jump). Buffalo has the same AP story at the top of D-1.
