    A couple of points on this...

    The Maricopa county attorney is the sheriff's personal hand puppet. The fact that he dropped the case tells you just how absolutely egregious the abuse by the special prosecutor had become. The sheriff's office appears stunned that anyone dared rein them in.

    As for the original "offense": I've read the statute that they claim the New Times violated by publishing Arpaio's address. They did not violate the statute, and didn't even come close. (It requires that the person publishing the address knows it is putting the officer's well-being in imminent danger.) The fact that they spent 2 million dollars of taxpayers money to investigate it is absolutely nauseating.

    It's standard. The Republic can post an article on Kurt Warner's elbow injury and 75% of the comments will be "Who cares about a elbo wen you shuld rite about fukken Mexican peaces of s**t criminals taken are jobs!!" The Republic's on-line comments are little more than a bulletin board for illiterate racists.
