    I think it's part of the same argument, because I understand now why I "needed" to know calculus even though I didn't, you know, really need to know it. And probably never will use it.

    Learning it has helped me develop the skills to acquire knowledge about what I really did need to know -- and also, what I really want to know (because god knows I need to know more obscure baseball shit. :D)

    No, I didn't have to take a calculus class in HS. Wasn't required. ;)

    I just think a thirst for information can be independent of any classes you took in formal education situations.
