Maybe this is for a different thread, but ... how effing stupid do you have to be to lose money owning a casino?

I think the Maloof's and a lot of others overbuilt thinking Las Vegas would grow to the sky. Revenue is still well below 2006 peaks. And a thread could be started on whether Las Vegas is going to turn into the next Detroit.

Interesting to look at this from the NHL's perspective. The Ducks badly want to the Kings to move into the Honda Center. As it was explained to me, it would be a "game changer" for Anaheim -- in a positive way.

There are few cities that have taken a bigger beating than Vegas over the last five years.

It's a no-brainer as to why Samueli wants the Kings. He gets more revenue.

As to Vegas, it's similar to Phoenix. Lots of newer housing developments turned into trashy neighborhoods because of foreclosures and owners renting their homes to just about anyone.

It may well also be without an NHL team, given that the Devils are drowning in red ink and are only being kept afloat by advances on their TV revenues.

    Devils aren't leaving.

Yeah, their problem is the ownership. One guy doesn't want to own anymore and isn't putting any more money in the team, and the other guy doesn't have enough to buy him out.

That, and the Kovalchuk contract kills their ability to make moves.
