    Well, my boss has told me this is our last year to submit dues due to cost-cutting measures. We've won a half-dozen first-place awards in state competition so if none of these (again) get a whiff of consideration, I won't attempt to fight the decision. I've long been convinced with smaller papers that if you don't catch a judge's eye with a national name as a source, you're screwed. Our only honorable mention award in 10 years proved it, and that article didn't win shit at the state level. I've also had a negative opinion about the rules of masking of identity of the paper in individual award contests. The mention of certain cities in your entries make identity an automatic giveaway in many cases. There's not too many Kalamazoos around, for example.
