Gary Shelton #1? Really? He makes me wish Hubert Mizell hadn't retired.

Friend of mine pulled off a nice victory in a lower-circulation category. Congrats.

Congrats to everyone on the list. How about Michael S. Schmidt only getting fifth in investigative. He's been mentioned in Pulitzer talk, hasn't he, for his NFL concussion stories?

Yeah, never been a big Shelton fan myself.

By my count, this makes two first-place finishes for Gary Shelton in the column category. I don't think that's a coincidence, a fluke or an anomaly. Reporting, point of view, style, humor -- check, check, check, check.

This (oh, I love saying that!)

Gary is one hell of a good guy, too.

Cousin: Alan Schwarz did the NY Times concussion stories. Schmidt is very good, though.

Bergen Record pulled off rare 1-2 in 100-250K columns with Ian O'Connor and Bob Klapisch....Good to see Dan Wetzel all over the place in the higher circ.

I really hope all those people still have their jobs. And still have them (or better ones) this time next year.

I'll agree he's a great guy. Congratulations, Gary.
