    Here I am scolding Mr. Mizzou again ... all I did was make a factual statement that there were more special section entries in the Under 15,000 category than the 175,000. Many of the larger papers are slowly moving away from these special sections. Not the case for the smaller shops.
    But you do make a good point on why just eight winners. I don't know the answer. Remember, I'm just a newbie :)

    And yet he's still a better sports feature writer than Wise. I don't discount his previous work in sports just because he doesn't write sports every day.

    Either way, they're both very talented, obviously. I like Wise's features way more than his columns.

    Wise wrote one of my favorite newspaper features ever a few years ago, on Gilbert Arenas. It doesn't hold up great now because the subject turned out to be a moron, but at the time I found it both well-written and insightful on a figure who had become a caricature. On the other hand, I'm thinking of Saslow's piece a few years back in the Sunday magazine about the recovery of a prep football player who suffered brain damage in a game.

    Damn, can't go wrong with either of those guys, can you?
