Apple gives employees extra paid time off

    part of unemployment law accounts for this, if it's a time that is traditionally closed for business.

    I started at my shop on Jan. 2, 2007, which made me ineligible for any vacation, period, for 364 days (the policy, as quoted to me) is that vacation is calculated based on service time on Jan. 1 of that year. "Unpaid" vacation was something that was pretty much foreign to where I was.

    Where I moved to a few years later (same chain) basically had the same outlook, though our new editor has been of the opinion that if we're going to treat our employees the way we generally do, we might as well be flexible.
