Appalachian State will never beat Michigan again

As one FCS coach just told me: "I know they think this will help them in the BCS playoffs, but it hasn't hurt the SEC any."

I think the B1G simply knows they HAVE to get better, with the playoff era coming. They need to play better competition.....and beat them.

This is just part of a growing movement, at least among the "big boys" in the conference, to improve overall scheduling. No more FCS, more BCS conference opponents in general. As examples, Ohio State has added (over the next decade) Oklahoma, Va. Tech, TCU, North Carolina & Texas. Michigan added BYU, Utah & Arkansas. Nebraska has BYU, Miami, Tennessee & Oklahoma coming up. They tried to get a scheduling partnership going with the PAC 12, but it didn't work out.

If nothing else, they're trying. Doesn't seem all that weird, in context.

There is a trickle down, too ...

My wife is the cross country coach at a Division II school. A couple of years ago, the school's football team played a $75K guarantee game against an FCS opponent. Before the DII school got paid, the FCS team had to get their check cashed from a guarantee game against Alabama.

The money to the DII school provided a one-time budget bump to every athletic program at the school. I went with my wife on a recruiting trip, and when we stopped to eat pointed out "Nick Saban just bought our supper!"

Already some push back from Big Ten AD's if my Twitter feed is any indication.

And that's the problem: I'm not sure it is. MAC teams play cupcake games too. I don't know how badly Northern Illinois is going to want its entire nonconference schedule to consist of road games in the Big Ten.

It's a good move for the Big 10 and this, along with the nine conference games will have implications with the coming playoff.
The sad truth is though, that there are more than a few FBS schools that are below many FCS schools. Check the WAC and Sun Belt.

I hope they grandfather in the already scheduled Michigan-Appy State rematch for 2014. If there's ever a Big Ten vs. FCS game that should be played, that's the one.

This is the college football equivalent of the alcoholic waking up, splashing water on his face, thinking about the previous evening and saying, "no more fat chicks."

Most schools would just nail the fat chicks... Michigan got her pregnant and contracted chlamydia. :D

Whether funny or not, this board gets all the lines I cannot say on the air. Sigh.
