So this was an interesting series of tweets from the AP's Terry Collins, who started backpedaling like Lester Hayes in his prime after Schefter re-tweeted him:

"Never covering the story?" When he tweeted that "sources" told him the Raiders coach was fired, wasn't he "covering the story?"

No. He was covering the Twitter.

Terry Collins is a news reporter out of San Francisco, which makes it curious. With the Niners and Giants at home, presumably the whole sports crew was on the beat.

I wonder if they sent the Oakland AP writer to London.

I'd love for this to be the impetus to ban any and all sentences that begin "My sources tell me..."

Nobody cares if you're an "insider" or not. They care that what they're reading is the fucking truth.

The thing that really throws me off is that last tweet.

"I have no information about the status about the Raiders coach. I was never covering the story."

It has boggled my mind since last night.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

My money is on him trying to look like a bigshot and being scolded for it by someone above him.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he talks to his boss today.

We had a lot of discussion about this in the office last night. At one point, his original tweet at 889 retweets including Shefter.

It is a teaching moment, to be polite, for a lot of what is wrong in this business.

How do you discipline the guy?
