AP names Gary Pruitt of McClatchy as President, CEO

    I'm not sure hiring a businessman for that job is in and of itself a bad thing. Most of the problems with AP of late have been in business dealings with their customers.

    The problem is they hired quite possibly the worst CEO in America of the last 10 years -- and, hell, maybe in all of history. Show me one other CEO who kept his job that long after destroying all profits and wiping out 95 percent of his company's value.

    That's quite a matzah ball to bite off there, LTL. Where does Craig Dubow fit on this scale? He's got to be in the conversation.

    As a person, Dubow can and will rot in hell. But Gannett churns out profits, and their stock price hasn't fallen nearly as much as McClatchy's. That stock was trading in the 60s when the K-R deal was announced and it is in the 2s now.

    And Dubow never engineered that colossal of a cluster fuck. The merger was the signature moment of Pruitt's career. Or at least that's what McClatchy was saying when it was still considered a good thing.
