Anything more unappealing than this year's HR contest?

Give me a freaking break, man. Did you even watch one second of Euro 2008 or even anything that isn't the MLS' crappy version? C'mon.

Yeah. That one goal scored in 90 minutes in the final sure was exciting.

I would sooner watch the original Home Run Derby, held hostage since ESPN bought Classic Sports.

My All-Time Mostly Dead Home Run Derby:

    1. Jimmie Foxx
    2. Willie Stargell
    3. Mickey Mantle
    4. Willie McCovey
    5. Hank Greenberg
    6. Babe Ruth

I am interested to see if anyone comes close to putting it out of Yankee Stadium. It would be a shot though. I gotta say this HR Derby isn't as appealing to me because the stadium doesn't have any little quirks to hit the balls off. AT&T Park has McCovey's Cove and the big glove, Minute Maid Park has the train tracks to hit it over and PNC Park had the river. Yankee Stadium doesn't have much.

Yeah, imagine that Rumple, a ballpark that's a ballpark without gimmicks. Thank god they're tearing it down.

The real Yankee Stadium had monuments and a flag pole on the playing field.

I'm just saying, it's always nice to see some kind of target in the HR Derby. I guess this year it's going to be a race to see if anyone can hit it over the facade or come close to it. They should hold the HR Derby at the old Polo Grounds, 496 to dead center would be fun to watch. Yet, they would just pull it down the lines.

Yes, but they were 460 feet from home plate.

483 to the clubhouse in dead center at the Polo Grounds.
And 258 RF line, 279 LF line.

Probably a good thing they were out of play (otherwise someone would have been killed running into one) but every once in a while a ball rolled out there. I recall Killebrew hitting a triple out there once and there's an oft-used clip of Murcer chasing a ball behind them.
