Ok, heres the deal. My wife wants this out of the house. This was my dad's, Van McKenzie. I don't want to sell it but would rather give it to someone that worked at The National that would appreciate it & not sell it. If you worked there and would want this, hit me up at deputyfl@yahoo.com. It will cost you a beer and you have to pick it up if you ever are in my area. If you ever get through St Augustine Florida, you can pick it up. Its heavy as hell. It has a bunch of copies of the first issues inside from the 3 cities they went out in.

So sorry you have to get rid of this Von. It is a piece of journalism history and from a time when your dad was at the top of his game and worked with some of the best sports journalists in the world. My brother-in-law has one of those, and I am jealous every time I see it. No way you can push back on this?

I got plenty of my dad's things. I'm not too attached to this. I'm keeping a few 1st issues too :) Being a collector myself(i collect 80s BMX bikes & casino chips), IMO this should go where its appreciated.

Kindred should have this, if he doesn't already. Or Ostler.

That's awesome. Too bad you have to let it go.

That's cool. As long as you are OK parting with it. It's a great memento. Wish I had worked there, but that was before my time. Hope it finds a good home.

That looks just like the ones they had here, except it has newspapers in it. The ones here never got filled.

    Yup... they deserve it...
Or Richard L. Shook -- because he should have something for all the papers and wire services he closed.

What a treasure. One of my great regrets that I never nicked a USA Today box, especially since the repair facility was in my hometown and the guy who ran it was a friend of the family. I just never got around to it.
